Parts of a Plant

This school year I am working with both kindergarteners and preschoolers, which excites me! This topic was done the first two weeks of school as a review from last school year due to the Covid situation. For now we are still only virtually meeting so I need more then just worksheets to make sure the students understand as much as possible.

Parts of the plant for Prechoolers

Week 1: Now this I worked only with preschoolers but I am sure it can be adapted to suit your grade. Now my clases are really short 20 mins once a week for science (enough to have their attention lol). I kicked things off with a youtube video about a cartoon where a seed grows. So then it was our turn to see if this was true and try to grow our own seeds. I chose beans as they are easier and faster to grow (I am not such a great gardener). I exlained during our virtual meet the steps to follow and then they did with parents on their own time and sent pictures.

*You can grow it in a ziploc bag, cup or jar

Week 2:

1. On our second week we started things with a youtube video that talked about the purpose behind each part of the plant.

2.Then I presented a powerpoint slide where we named parts of the plant.

3. After we showed our plants and identified its parts.

Homework: With their parents they had to set the plant carefully on a piece of paper or notebook and label the parts of the plant. Since most still don't know how to write their parents would write for them. In some cases they traced and in others they did it from copying (for me any option was fine). After it was recommended to plant in their garden.

At the end of the lesson I was super happy to see the results. Never did I expect them to be so great. They really seemed to be excited to show their plants!!! And what better way to learn then to be hands on about it.
